One side of the story: *Sigh* Ah yes, it is almost that time of year again. The hearts, the roses, sweet kisses after sunset. The blissful, the charming, Valentine’s Day.
Another side of the story: What sick, demented moron created Black Thursday? Like I need yet another day to remind me of my pathetic, non-existent love life! Curse you Saint Valentine! Curse you!
As you can see, we’re not all on the same page when it comes to the lovely Hallmark holiday that is Valentine’s Day. But there are ways for people of every situation to make it a pleasant, if not lovely, day.
Let’s say you are one of the blessed who has someone special in your life. Well then, have at it. Sure, it’s a cheesy holiday and no one really knows why it exists anyway…but heck, in my opinion, you can never give too much, or say “I Love You” too many times. So scream it at the top of your lungs…”I’m in love, I’m in love, and I don’t care who knows it!” OK- perhaps a bit much, but you get the idea.
You don’t need to spend gobs of money, or make some gigantic romantic gesture, sometimes it is the little, simple things that really count. Honestly, your best bet is to put a little thought into your gift. Create something with your hands. Write something. Spill your heart out onto a piece of paper. If you’re not a writer, make a love CD. Gather together some pictures, get wild!
And guys, if you’re not creative and are drawing a complete blank on this one, read my lips, you can’t EVER go wrong with jewelry!

Now if you are one of the poor, single, miserable saps out there (like myself), Valentine’s Day is your day to celebrate freedom! That’s right, down an entire bottle of champagne by yourself while pounding a box of chocolates. Draw yourself a hot bubble bath and soak. Go on a wild shopping rampage, but for heaven’s sake, set a limit! Buy yourself a bouquet of roses, or a lovely piece of jewelry. Make Valentine’s Day cards for your friends. Go out to dinner with a best friend. Rent cheesy romance films, or if you’re not handling Valentine’s Day well, rent Die Hard With A Vengeance (I’m not here to judge)!
Either way, make the most of your day, and rejoice in the fact that it only comes once a year.
