Mademoiselle is the French equivalent of Miss, Ms., or Madame. The word literally means “my little lady” (ma “my” + demoiselle “little lady”). In French-speaking countries Mademoiselle is used as a courtesy term for single women.

Michelle Samson, a resident of New York City, came up with the concept for Mademoiselle Jewelry after scouring the streets of SoHo and TriBeCa for unique jewelry, to no avail. “It’s hard to express yourself through style, when you see ten other people walk by you wearing the same thing,” she explains. “I knew I had the ability to bring unique jewelry right into the homes of women all over the world. I just had to take the leap.”
Michelle’s professional background is as diverse as the jewelry she showcases, ranging from reporting and editing to freelance writing, public relations, and photography.
“I’m so excited to be putting all that I’ve learned, plus my creative energy, to good use,” she says. “Each piece of jewelry that we select here at MJ is something that we hope will inspire our customers. Jewelry should not be dull — it should be a form of expression, a form of art.”
