As you may have noticed, at Mademoiselle Jewelry we diligently strive to provide our customers with the most unique jewelry possible. Now, even though they happen to be an enormous chunk of competition for us, we must give credit where credit is due. In fact, I’ll even admit that I may or may not have been wandering through Tiffany’s flagship store on Fifth Avenue and 57th Street just this past weekend. Besides, I have an excuse. As a fine jewelry connoisseur it is absolutely essential for me to check in on the competition every once in a while — and Tiffany’s is the utmost competition. What the heck is going on? It feels like every morning I wake up and am bombarded by news of recalled toys and big-name manufacturers in the red. What a downer! I mean, what could make the holidays less fun than having to worry about giving your child a toy full o’ lead?

So you can imagine my dismay upon waking up this very morning to read that they are now finding lead in — heaven forbid — children’s jewelry! The State of Vermont issued a report today that a certain manufacturer’s products were recently tested, and that 80% of their products far exceeded the maximum level of lead recommended by the Consumer Product Safety Commission staff. Among these products was jewelry for children.

But don’t let this get you down, and certainly do not give up on jewelry as a special gift for the little ones in your life. There are some very simple ways around this crisis. All you need to do is ensure that the jewelry you purchase is made of well-known precious metals, such as sterling silver or gold.
